I don’t usually engage in paying myself compliments but I’d like to think of myself as a funny and exciting human being. I think that when I’m in the presence of other people, I can be…no…scratch that…I am relatively intriguing and entertaining!
I don’t usually engage in paying myself compliments but I’d like to think of myself as a funny and exciting human being. I think that when I’m in the presence of other people, I can be…no…scratch that…I am relatively intriguing and entertaining!Whereas those are great qualities to have, I can’t stand anyone who doesn’t have the ability to be serious – not even once! We all love a good joke here and there and moments that cheer us up but sometimes, the clown behaviour comes off as annoying – if not disrespectful! There is a guy who assumed his humour was God’s gift to mankind - therefore shared it even with people who had no clue who he was. He talked to this guy and cracked a joke about over weight people. The guy didn’t look amused at all and when his girlfriend returned to the table, round like a mini hippo – the conversation left him with a black eye! This same character, even with his black eye, chose to go on– jokes in tow. We begged him to shut up but I think he thought we were the clowns. He started talking about crippled people and how funny it is to see them run, only to realize later that another friends’ (also present) younger brother was in the same category – a conversation that left him with another black eye! The guy just never knew when to shut up!!!It’s okay to be funny, it’s okay to talk - it’s just not okay to talk all the time or dish out jokes in very poor taste. It’s also not okay to assume that everyone is interested in what you have to say because in your heart you believe you are funny and no one can convince you otherwise! I understand the need to be the life of the party but even the greatest comedians all know when to put a lid on it. In fact to be the true life of the party, you must learn when to speak. Say something, make your point, throw in a humorous line and then give others a chance to do the same. If you keep going all night, not only do you risk pissing everyone off with distasteful jokes, you will also graduate to the best person to avoid. If people are not in the mood for entertainment- chill out. There is a time for everything so learn when to be funny and when to be serious!
