It’s okay for the youth to be smart, get informed, have all the fun and whatever adventures they crave, but one question stands, "To what extent has generation X affected these youths?” So many youth are swayed by modern trends in music, fashion and movies that they are no longer in touch with their true-identities. Most of them care about is looking smart, hanging out every night and dating perpetually without thinking about the consequences of their actions. As a result of all the brainwashing that comes from watching the lives of celebrities on MTV and E-Entertainment, all the youth want to be is look and become like; Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Drake, Chris Brown, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj or Rihanna. If you have ever walked past a teenage boy wearing shoes heavier than his body weight, walking as if he is suffering from constipation, with trousers literally belted at his thighs and shamelessly exposing his butt to the dismay of the elders, then you know what I am trying to explain. When it comes to our sisters, good old-fashioned decency is forgotten. Their faces are continuously plastered with gothic or rainbow-coloured make-up and their scanty skin-hugging clothes are all they can manage to wear.Apparently, most of this fracas is meant to show some ‘swag’.Unfortunately, Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook do not help the situation. The youth are spending more time online than they actually spend thinking of great ideas and reflecting on their personal development. Even the jobless and broke ones, will hustle for a dime just to buy an internet bundle to get hooked online. As if that is not enough, when some get a job, they begin to feel like they are on top of the world. Once their small salary trickles in at the end of the month, all they think about is hitting the bars and then, crazy chat of ‘buying a nice a car’, getting that ‘hot girl or boy’ to ‘marry’ begins to flow. Unfortunately, when they sober up the next morning, they find themselves nursing a hangover, with an empty bank account and less friends to hang out with. Feeling played and surprised at their state of affairs, the wise ones will reconsider their definition of swagger and get on top of their game, while the foolish ones will repeat the same cycle and waste away. When Generation X decides to venture out, a lot comes to play. This is why the youth of today, must consider their choices carefully as these determine destiny.
