Radio Flash FM, a local radio station, over the weekend awarded different prizes to some of its listeners.In a colourful event that took place in Nyabugogo Taxi Park, Jean Pierre Ugirimbabazi, resident of Kanyinya sector in Nyarugenge District, walked away with a motorbike worth over Rwf2million.The programme known as ‘Va hasi Cash’, started in March this year, where a listener would call in whenever Awilo Longomba’s song would be played on Flash FM."During the Va hasi programme, I would load about Rwf500 to call and share my views about this programme,” said Ugirimbabazi. "I am so excited to have won such a grand and useful asset – motorbike. It is going to change my life both socially and economically.” After winning the motorcycle, Ugirimbabazi plans to apply for a permit, and operate taxi-moto business.Drosera Mukamana, Ugirimbabazi’s wife, said: "I used to discourage my husband from participating in the programme because I thought it was wastage of money. But, I thank the management of the radio for rewarding its loyal listeners.”Other prizes which included, among others, a flat screen TV, radio sets, mobile phones and hand bags.Joseph Ndamage, who won a flat screen TV, said: "I am so happy to have won a TV set. I’ll use it for business.”In an interview with The New Times, Louis Kamanzi, manager and proprietor of Flash FM, explained: "The objective of awarding our listeners is a way of giving back to the society and hopefully change the lives of a few.”"It’s also another way of appreciating the support we get from them because they are our core partners,” he said.According to Kamanzi, Flash FM has spent Rwf10million in organising the ‘Va hasi Cash’ programme and they intend to organise similar activities in future.The event was graced with mesmerizing performances from artists, including Riderman, Rafiki, Elion Victory, Nasson, Kamichi and Bull Dog.
