For the first time Rwanda has qualified for the World Junior Beach Volleyball Championships, which is slated for August 29 to September 2 in Halifax, Canada.Rwanda’s U-20 team qualified for the first time World Cup, after beating Serra Leone (2-0), Gabon (2-0) and Zimbabwe (2-0). The team lost one match against South Africa in two straight sets.The youthful pair of Denise Mutatsimpundu and Charlotte Nzayisenga was making their debut in an African championship held in Togo’s capital of Lome.Rwanda was pooled in Pool B, along with Sierra Leone, Gabon, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.  Rwanda finished in second place, behind South Africa.The African championship acts as a qualifier for the FIVB World Championships which will feature 9 women teams and 11 for the men, representing continental zones.Some of the other teams in Togo were Guinea Conakry, Senegal, Cape Verde, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Niger, Gabon, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Madagascar.
