Rwanda scoops UN public service award

The Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration has won United Nations Public Service Award (UNPSA) in recognition of good public service delivery. Rwanda came second after Senegal.

The Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration has won United Nations Public Service Award (UNPSA) in recognition of good public service delivery. Rwanda came second after Senegal. "This is a prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service and we are proud of what we have achieved. It recognises our efforts in improving the services we offer,” the directorate’s Head of Corporate Services, Melody Twahirwa who represented the institution, told The New Times. "It is a congratulatory message to all our staff for a job well done,” Twahirwa said.She said the prize is in recognition of the efforts made by the directorate and Rwanda in improving public service delivery and being innovative in various services offered to the public. She said the directorate submitted the Initiative in the category 2 of improving service delivery, mainly the use of ICT. "This is an opportunity for us to share our best practices with all other public institutions around the world, to learn from them,” Twahirwa said.During the awarding ceremony in New York, the United Nations Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, Sha Zukang, said the award is an initiative to spur innovation within the global public administration.
