City Rotary club gets new leadership

The Rotary Club of Kigali-Virunga (RCKV) on Saturday evening installed a new committee.

The Rotary Club of Kigali-Virunga (RCKV) on Saturday evening installed a new committee.The new committee led by Gitau Wamukui as its president, replaced the one which has been running the rotary club for a period of one year.The Rotary Club of Virunga is one of the four rotary clubs in Rwanda. Speaking after handing over the office to the incoming committee, Jolly Mpazimpaka, the outgoing president, called on the incoming committee to continue the club’s work.  "During my term of office our club helped a lot in serving the Rwandan community for stance we have partnered with government institutions in setting up the Kigali Public Library,” she said.Mpazimpaka stated that, the club has also worked with other organisations to help the vulnerable population in terms of providing clean water, healthcare among others.The Rotary club of Kigali has also donated orthopaedic materials to the King Faisal Hospital among other activities within past year.She mentioned that RCKV focuses on seeing young people engage in reading and writing skills as they plan to construct more libraries across the country.According to Wamukui, the incoming president, the club has worked on 50 projects all over the country that have improved the population’s livelihood since its inception in 1999."During my tenure, we are going to focus on several projects that will contribute to growth of the standards of living of Rwandans,” he noted. Speaking at the event, Hope Tumukunde Gasatura, the vice mayor of City of Kigali hailed Rotarians for their efforts in contributing to the development of the country."We recognise the support you render to the government but I encourage you to be part of the local leadership development,” she said.Rotarians meet every Wednesday to plan for new better ways to help the community.Rwanda’s Rotary Clubs include Mont Jari Rotary Club, Virunga, Rotary Club of Kigali and the Rotary Club of Butare.
