NYAMAGABE – Over 5000 Congolese refugees have been relocated from Nkamira Transit Centre, Rubavu District to Kigeme refugee camp, Nyamagabe District. The relocation was launched last month to decongest the transit centre. Speaking to The New Times, Kigeme camp manager, Emmanuel Niyibaho, said they receive refugees according to the available shelters.   Niyibaho said the rain that fell in the last few days had halted the process but that the relocation had resumed. Currently, camp occupants are sheltered in temporary units which the official said will be replaced with permanent ones.   According to Niyibaho, 3 deaths and two births have been recorded at the camp. The fierce fighting which erupted late in April in the volatile eastern DRC province of North Kivu has pushed thousands to seek refuge in Rwanda and Uganda. As per Wednesday night, over 16 000 had crossed into Rwanda.
