APR draw Yangaa in Kagame Club Cup

Three-time Cecafa-Kagame Cup champions APR FC have been drawn in Group C along with holders and hosts Yanga Africans of Tanzania. Wau Salam (South Sudan) and Vita Club (DRC) complete the group.

Three-time Cecafa-Kagame Cup champions APR FC have been drawn in Group C along with holders and hosts Yanga Africans of Tanzania. Wau Salam (South Sudan) and Vita Club (DRC) complete the group.Group A has Simba (Tz), URA (Uganda), Vita Club (DR Congo) and Ports of Djibouti, while Group B is composed of Azam (Tz), Tusker (Kenya) and Mfunzo of Zanzibar.Vita Club confirmed they will take part in the Cecafa-Kagame Club Cup Championship scheduled for July 14-28 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania as a guest team.A total of 11 clubs will contest the two week tournament that, according to Cecafa officials, will be shown Live by Supersport in over 48 African countries. APR will kick off their campaign for a fourth regional title against newcomers Wau Salam in the opening match of championship on Saturday,  July 14.Defending champions Yanga will open the championship against Burundi’s Atletico on July 14.According to Cecafa Secretary General Nicolas Musonye, "the long term objective of the regional body is to make Kagame Club Cup one of the biggest club football competitions in Africa.” "With enough sponsorship next year, we may increase the number to 16 following growing interest from clubs across the continent,” he noted in a press release.Cecafa patron President Paul Kagame has already committed USD 60,000 prize money which will be shared among the top three finishers. Vita Club is one of the oldest and popular clubs in DRC and was among four others that had requested to take part in the event.Musonye added, "In responding to the vision of President Kagame, CECAFA wishes to use the power of football to promote Peace and stability in the Great Lakes Region and in the Horn of Africa.”
