They are versatile, effective and suited to the needs of natural African hair, if you are the type of person that struggles to keep your natural hair fresh and healthy.Kenya’s Haco Tiger brands Ltd, a leading beauty and health product manufacturer in the region, unveiled its range of beauty products on the Rwandan market in a colourful ceremony.‘Miadi’, a range of natural hair care products said to be ‘specially made and tailored for African hair, were introduced in the Rwandan market and according to Haco Industries, Miadi provides an ‘all-round solution’ for hair care consumers at different levels.‘Miadi’ is a Swahili word which means ‘the promise’ and according to the manufacturers, Miadi products will offer effective, naturally inspired and all-round hair care experiences to Rwandan users.According to Marion Boadi, Miadi Marketing Manager, a variety of Miadi beauty products which will be available in different outlets and shopping malls, are versatile and guarantee performance when it comes to maintenance of African hair."We understand the needs of the people, we all know that maintaining African hair is not an easy task”, said Boadi."We researched on the needs of African hair and through our products, that’s what we exactly offer”. "We thought that a lot of people are importing brands in Africa yet we have a lot of experts here who are well trained and no particular needs of African hair,” she added. The company hired a trichologist, a hair specialist trained in Australia, who researched on the needs of hair before they ventured into manufacturing the products."Why should we import if we can do our own? There is no need to think that whatever is manufactured abroad is of superior quality than what is manufactured here,” said Boadi, adding that by manufacturing Miadi products, the company targeted to produce something of high quality."This is a product exclusively for ethnic or African hair. Miadi was launched in 2007 and then after that, we went out to research more on how we can improve and then re-launch, which we did last year,” she noted. The range of products include Bergamot Oil Pomade, Cholesterol Scalp treatment, Neutralising shampoo, Conditioning Braid Spray, Hair Food, Scalp Healer, Herbal Gro Pomade, Olive Oil Relaxer – Regular and Protein Re-constructor Treatment. The company also trains stylists on how to use the products. During the launch, 145 Rwandan hair stylists were invited and briefed on the use of the products."I am pretty excited about these products, I think our clients who maintain natural hair will love the products, though it will take time for them to get used to them. But the most important thing is that the products are locally made to suit our needs,” said Fatuma Uwantege, a local stylist. At the launch, Haco’s chief trichologist Muli Musyoka, trained local hair stylists on the use of Miadi products."We have briefed hair stylists on how to use the product because we want consumers to get value for their money, which is why we are creating the link between the manufacturer, the salons and the consumers. We want to avoid cases where people use counterfeit products,” said Musyoka.
