Junior Hoops off to Bujumbura

THE National men and women’s junior basketball teams yesterday left for Burundi to continue their build-up for the Zone Five Qualifiers slated for July 17-26.A contingent of 38 people that include 32 players, four assistant coaches and head coach Nenad Amanovic led by the hoops federation’s second Vice President Jean Claude Murigo are in Bujumbura to take part in the Great Lakes tournament that starts on Friday."We want to have an early look at the fitness of the players in a competitive match before we make decisions on the next course of action.”Amanovic said.Meanwhile, the national basketball federation has received a timely boost of Rwf120m from the Ministry of Sports and Culture for the organization of the zonal competitionThe week-long competition will attract six teams which include Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan and Ethiopia.The men’s team will be bolstered by foreign based players who jet in next month and they include: Adronis Rwabigwi, Ngenzi Eric, Manzi Danny, Karenzi Ronald, Twagirayezu Patrice, Ishimwe Norbert, Rutare Jonathan, and Shyaka Scifon.
