Going in and out of the salon almost weekly or every fortnight just to treat your hair or get it braided and styled differently can be quite a bother. But if you don’t want to cut it, hardly have time salon visits or you not have the patience to grow real dreadlocks then, perhaps,  dreadlock extensions are the best idea for you.According to Jeogette Komezuseng, owner of ‘Jeogette’s World of Dreadlocks’, located above Ndoli’s Supermarket in Gisementi, the best type of extensions to use are Kanekalon. It is synthetic and can be bought at moderate prices in various colors from any beauty shop. In addition to this, when looked after properly, these extensions look better and more natural the older they get.Since the process involves attaching natural hair to the extensions to create a lock, Jeogette says that the greatest advantage of using these extensions is that your natural hair stays intact and the dreadlocks can be removed whenever one feels like."The hair must not be washed too often as washing hair too regularly can dry out roots and cause dandruff. It is therefore advisable to give your hair a thorough wash once every two weeks and use the suitable recommended braids sprays”, she further advised. These extensions can cause sensitive scalps, a bit of itchiness, and a slight scalp rash but this eventually wears off.According to www.ehow.com, you can choose to use the extensions to start new permanent dreadlocks, or just for a temporary look. The dreadlocks can be made of either human or synthetic hair.

For the best results, dreadlocks should be started on naturally kinky or curly hair, which is untreated with chemical relaxers. It is recommended that all chemically relaxed hair be cut off before starting dreadlocks.
