There lived a Hare that was so boastful. It became so proud that other animals were scared to challenge him. So onetime he came before the other animals and said, ”I have never lost a race when I put forth my full speed. I challenge any one here to race with me.” Sluggishly, the Tortoise walked up front and said quietly, ”I accept your challenge.” ”Hahaha” laughed the Hare; ”That is a very big joke. I could dance round you all the way and still win.” "Pride always comes before a fall,” answered the Tortoise. ”Shall we race?” So everything was made ready for the race and a course was fixed and a start was made. With a lot of confidence, the Hare jetted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, believing that the Tortoise could never catch him, lay down by the wayside to have a nap.The Hare had a dream that was so captivating that he didn’t want to wake up. The Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course. When the Hare awoke from his nap, he saw the Tortoise just near the winning-post. The Hare ran as fast as he could, but it was too late. He saw the Tortoise had reached the finish line. The Tortoise won the race, and the Hare was humiliated in front of all the other animals. The lesson we learn here is that things are best done when you focus and never give up. When something seems impossible, take it up and hope for the best and never boast because, ‘pride comes before a fall’.
