PELAGIE N. MBABAZI of The New Times caught up with The Lantern magazine members of FAWE Girls School. When did you launch your Magazine and why?The magazine was launched on 16th June, 2012. That is when we had our first issue and we are planning to produce many others. We chose "The Lantern” because we wanted to light the reading path of students, not only at FAWE but also of those outside our school boundaries. We shall do this through our educative articles which are mostly about what teenagers go through on day-to-day basis. What is the group’s objective?Apart from sharing experiences that teenagers go through, the group aims at developing the reading and writing skills of the students. Many students are eager to improve their writing talents. They are sharing their experiences through the written word and this, in a way, is improving the school’s capacity to educate. What are your future plans? The group is looking forward to producing the magazine quarterly and increasing its size. We are planning to distribute outside our school because all youth have almost the same problems, experiences, attitudes towards certain things. We also want to encourage more people to share their ideas on how we can do better to improve content in The Lantern magazine
