Red hot striker Léandre Willy Esombe Onana is looking to improve his goal-scoring prowess after inspiring Rayon Sports to the 2023 Peace Cup final.
The Cameroonian has been a key figure for the Blues, being the club’s top scorer in both Primus National League and the Peace Cup and he is not ready to stop scoring to help his side finish the season with at least a major trophy.
"I am very excited that my scoring form is helping my club a lot and I am willing to secure the title with Rayon Sports,” Onana said.
"It is the first time, since I joined Rayon Sports, that I have been scoring such goals that can change the game. I thank my teammates and coach for pushing me and I hope to continue to play a role in my team’s success," he added.
The Cameroonian born has scored five goals in the Peace Cup while he is joint-second in the Rwanda Premier League top scoring charts, alongside Yafesi Mubiru, wth 13 goals, a goal behind leading scorer Hussein Shaban who has 14.
It was a masterstroke performance for the striker in the last couple of games and it was his two goals that knocked Mukura out of the Peace Cup semifinals setting a final date with bitter rivals APR FC on June 3 at Huye Stadium.
"The result means that we are in the right direction to winning the Peace Cup. We have to be consistent and keep fighting to finish the Peace Cup campaign triumphant. We want to win it and I want to finish as the top scorer," he noted.
Rayon, now sitting third on the league with 55 points, five behind leaders SC Kiyovu. They may be on the brink of giving up on the title but Onana hopes his side can have a good season should they win the Peace Cup while he also sets his eyes on the individual golden boot gong.
"I want to score more goals to finish the season as the top scorer in both the Peace Cup and the league besides helping my team to win something in the end. I want to keep improving every game we have ahead" he noted
Onana signed for Rayon sports in July 2021 after passing his trials with the team.
