Editor,After reading the article that was published in The New Times on June 22, titled " Kigali Public Library now operational”, I would like to say congratulations on all of the efforts that have gone into building a public library in Kigali. When I visited Rwanda in 2010, I remember asking my friends where the library was located, but there was no library as such to be found. In 2011, when visiting for the second time, I found that one was being built...just that fast...very impressive indeed. I am very proud to see that the doors have been opened, the shelves have been stocked with books, and a culture of reading is being promoted in Rwanda, most especially among the youth. Personally, I wish the working hours for the library are extended up to 8p.m. This will allow many readers, who during the opening hours may be busy elsewhere during the time the library is currently operating (7.30a.m to 5p.m) to come around after work and also benefit from the facility.
