POLICE and Amavubi Stars striker Meddie Kagere will not rush to sign for a new club when his contract with the Primus league side expires next month.Kagere’s contract with Police runs out on July 4, the day for the final of the 2012 MTN Peace Cup.However, the 28-year old, who has scored 28 league goals in two seasons for the law and order enforcers, is focused on moving to Europe or a top African side in a bid to develop his career."I will not rush into making any decision for the sake of money. I only want to join a top club which plays quality football so as to help me get more exposure,” the Ugandan-born talisman told Times Sport."I have enjoyed my time playing for Police and hope we can finish on a high by winning the MTN Peace Cup title,” added the former Mukura and Kiyovu striker.Kagere, now a regular for Amavubi, has been a talisman for Police, spearheading their drive for success and often delivering results when it mattered.His goals were particularly instrumental in bringing Police to within a whisker of their first league title this season, as well as last year’s MTN Peace Cup where APR needed penalty shootouts to lift the Cup.The former Atraco forward has been linked with a move to regional clubs including Tanzania’s Young Africans, Gor Mahia of Kenya and St. George of Ethiopia. APR have also shown interest.Police club chairman Alphonse Katurebe said yesterday they will not stop the striker from signing for a club of his choice. "We will not stop Kagere from going. If he still wants to be at Police, we will negotiate but if not, we will not stand in his way."He has been a dedicated player, who had Police at heart for two years, and if he decides to leave, we will certainly miss him,” admitted Katurebe.In January, Gor Mahia and St. George came close to signing Kagere, after his industrious performance in last year’s Cecafa senior challenge cup where he scored five goals, but they failed to come to an agreement with Police.Kagere is not the only player who will be leaving Police. Burundian international Laudit Mavugo is also sent to join Algeria’s JS Kabylie.
