BUGESERA—Nyamata town is experiencing meat scarcity after authorities decided to close the town’s only abattoir.


The abattoir was closed due to poor sanitation. Meat sellers are currently importing meat from the Kigali city to the district.


"After the closure of abattoir, the only option of getting meat is from Kigali city,” said a butcherly owner.


However, the district health director François Karambizi has authorized the sell off of one cow that had fell in a ditch.


Karambizi also said that some butchers and abattoir would be opened if the fulfill the health requirements.


District residents are currently complaining of scarcity of meat.
