Why King David Academy is soaringLast year, over 90 percent of the students at King David Academy scored highly in the National Examinations. Teen Times writer Boney Muhumuza caught up with the School’s Director Annet Mutamuriza who explained the reasons for the students’ success.Qn: What is your goal this year?Ans: We want to ensure that this year’s candidates pass with the necessary points that will allow them to enter the universities of their choice.Qn. What tactics do you use to achieve high results?Ans: I can assure you that there are no other tactics or tricks that we use to make our students perform well except making them work hard, ensure discipline, maximum supervision per candidate and, more importantly, we find qualified teachers from the region to instruct them.Qn: What facilities have you put in place to facilitate student’s education?Ans: The school expanded its laboratory, library and has built a nice and smart computer laboratory full of computers. These are to facilitate the candidates to make their own research and practical on teacher’s supervision and this is going on well as we wish it should be.We also provide extra studies (coaching) after normal classes. This way, teachers get enough time to help weak students so they can improve.Qn: Besides academics, what else do you offer students?Ans: Our education model incorporates high discipline standards and culture, and gives students free time for extracurricular activities. This enables them to ease their minds and relax. We teach our traditional cultural values and have two dance troupes that compete countrywide. We have various sports teams such as; football, basketball, handball and volleyball that participate in the interschool competitions. Qn: What is your final message?Ans: I thank the Government of Rwanda that has put more efforts in the education of our young generation. We hope we shall continue to nurture future professionals who will compete on the East African and international job market.
