PLANS by Inyange Industries Ltd to capture more regional market share has been boosted by attainment of the ISO 22000:2005 international management system.Senganda Kayitana, Managing Director of Inyange Industries, believes that the system will increase consumer confidence of Inyange products, which is needed to boost sales on regional and international markets."This gives every consumer comfort that each Inyange product they consume meets international standards,” he said on Friday at the ceremony to receive the standards certificate.Inyange is the country’s leading producer of tetra pak juices, processed milk and mineral water.The ISO 22000:2005 standard is an international standards Organization-ISO management system benchmark designed to enable organizations to control food safety hazards along the food chain in order ensure food safety even at the time of consumption.Industry experts are optimistic that as more products are internationally recognized, Rwanda will be able to grow its budding manufacturing sector which is holding back the country’s competitiveness in the region.Kayitana says that while Inyange has managed to capture markets in east and central Africa there was need to meet international standards that are required in these markets to ensure quality and safety of consumers."We can now say we are state of the art, not in terms of buildings but in processes,” said John Bosco Birungi, Chief Executive Officer of Crystal Ventures Limited, the parent company of Inyange Ltd.He adds; "Our products are the best in terms of quality in the region but this message was not yet confirmed in terms of industry standards.”Kenneth Maundu, the General Manger for business development at UKAS Acreditation, says that the accreditation puts Inyange Industries at the league of quality performers and achievers in local and global markets."The role of Inyange industries as a leading food processing company in Rwanda remains crucial as it seeks to achieve its vision of developing into ma globally competitive agro Business Company,” he notedOlivier Mbera, the in charge -plant Environmentalist and food safety at Inyange notes that the industry started implementing food safety management system in 2010 with an aim to increase customer satisfaction and safety."The certification will help us control food safety hazards in the food chain and ensure that food is safe at the time for human consumption,” he said.The standards body Rwanda Bureau of Standards-RBS has been urging industries to have their products certified as one way of increasing exports. Currently around 60 products are certified by RBS.
