This year’s Kagame Cup Club Championships will be held from July 14-28 in Tanzania, the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Secretary General Nicolas Musonye has confirmed.Preparations for the championship began in earnest in Dar re salaam on Thursday when Musonye met several stakeholders and partners to lay the ground in what is expected to be a thrilling competition.On Friday meeting, CECAFA chairman Leodegar Tenga chaired a joint meeting of the Council and Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) at the federation headquarters where both parties signed a memorandum to stage the event next month.At a Press Conference in Dar Saturday, both Tenga and Musonye thanked the Sponsors of the event and also CECAFA Patron President Paul Kagame for their efforts to improve club football in the region. President Kagame has been the sponsor of CECAFA since 1999.He has already committed USD 60,000 prize money for the 2012 competition. Musonye urged other sponsors and partners to come on board and make the 2012 competition a success.Supersport has already partnered with CECAFA to show the matches Live. The matches will be staged at the Dar National Stadium which hosted both the Club cup and Challenge cup last year.Several clubs across the continent have shown interest in participating in this year’s event; they include Vita Club of Congo and several others from COSAFA region. Musonye said he will liaise with TFF, and sponsors to look at the possibility of inviting foreign clubs all depending on the resources that will be available. Rwanda will be represented by league champions APR Fc.
