2013 Africa Nations Cup qualifier
Saturday, 2nd legNigeria vs. RwandaAS Cannes striker Elias Uzamukunda failed to make it in the final team which left for Nigeria yesterday for the 2013 Africa Nations Cup qualifier due this Saturday in Calabar, Canaan City.Uzamukunda who was recovering from a knee injury aggravated it last Sunday when Rwanda drew 1-1 against Benin in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers at Amahoro stadium.Even though team doctors worked intensively around the clock, Uzamukunda could not give any positive sign of recovery and assurance that he could play on Saturday thus dropping him from the travelling squad.Apart from Uzamukunda, SC Kiyovu play maker Hussein Sibomana, APR’s Ismail Nshutiyamagara and Isonga goalie Olivier Kwizera, head coach Milutin Sredojovic maintained the same squad which played the last two matches of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.Micho said, "It is sad that I will miss the services of Elias Uzamukunda due to injury but I don’t doubt that these players will continue from where they stopped against Benin to show us a good game.” The Amavubi team spent a night in Lagos yesterday and will reconnect to Calabar later today to firm up preparation for the clash with the Super Eagles whose first leg ended in a goalless draw in Kigali in February. The Amavubi team’s first ever appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations finals dates back to 2004 in Tunisia. Efforts to repeat that memorable feat have always ended miserably.Should Amavubi overcome Nigeria, they will advance to the last round that brings together the 16 teams that competed at the Africa Nations Cup finals held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea early this year.Travelling squad: Jean Claude Ndoli, Fabrice Twagizimana, Tumaine Ntamuhanga, Meddie Kagere, Salomon Nirisarike, Haruna Niyonzima, Eric Gasana, Jean Baptista Mugiraneza, Olivier Karekezi, Bokota Labama, Jean Claude Iranzi, Steven Godfroid, Dady Birori, Emery Bayisenge, Evaritse Mutuyimana, Ndaka Frederique, Jonas Nahimana, Imran Nshimiyimana.
