…. now its girls’ generation! If Rwanda has ‘Miss Jojo’, Korea has Girls’ Generation!Nine girls from Korea, who are barely over 20, rocked the U.S.A upside down. On January 31, 2012, the Korean girls dubbed ‘Girls Generation’ appeared on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’ in the U.S.A. At that very moment, they proved that the Korean Wave was not just a temporary phenomenon. Girls’ Generation is an idol group in Korea which made their first debut in 2007. Their unique performance is evaluated as "exquisite” and not to mention, their music is awesome. Their music is very addictive and indicative of the representative music genres of K-POP. One of their hit songs is ‘GEE’. This song is a dance pop song about a cute situation where a girl who falls in love for the first time and has no idea what to do. ‘GEE’ came out in 2009 and it made the group famous in Korea and Asia in general. After the song, they have been reaching out to the world. Girls’ Generation is composed of nine members, Jessica, Seo-hyeon, Sunny, Tae-yeon, Yoo-ri, Tiffany, Hyo-yeon, Soo-yeong and Yoon-a. Each of them has great talents not only in singing and dancing but also in acting. For example, Yoon-a, had leading roles in some soap operas and got good reviews, and Jessica had a leading role in a musical which turned out to be very successful. Behind this successful achievement, there were the tremendous efforts that they had to make. Almost all of them were trained hard at least four years before the debut and now their efforts have finally paid off. To attend the Girls’ Generation performances, visit the cultural centre of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kigali. The centre offers a wide range of K-POP music videos and Korean movies on every Friday afternoon.
