IN-CONG coach Marcio Maximo, who replaces Kostadin Papic at Yanga Africans, has lined up a move for Police and Amavubi striker Meddie Kagere. The former Taifa Stars head coach has the Police marksman on the shotlist of players he needs at Tanzania’s biggest club in time for the forthcoming Cecafa Kagame Cup, which will be held in Dar es Salaam. According to Tanzania media, Maximo has told Yanga officials to sign Kagere, now a free agent after the expiration of his contract with Police FC. The coach also wants Ugandan midfielder Owen Kasule, who features for Hoang Anh Gia Lai in the Vietnam Premier League.Maximo is set to sign a contract with Yanga on Thursday replacing Papic, who parted ways with the club following the team’s failure to win the Tanzanian Premier League.Yanga, who finished third in the 2011/12 season, will compete in the money-spinning regional tournament by virtue of being the defending champions.Maximo’s association with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) ended two years ago after his four-year reign as the national team head coach."We have decided to make the registration of Kagere and Kasule public because we know that our arch-rivals (Simba) are also interested in signing them, especially Kasule,” the Yanga source said.Kagere was denied a professional move to Ethiopia’s St. George and Kenya’s Gor Mahia early this year by Police FC and since then, the lethal striker has not given up on playing outside Rwanda. When contacted yesterday, Kagere said, "I have not had any contacts from Yanga or any other club, and in any case, right now am just concentrating on doing well for the national team.”Kagere is among Amavubi squad that heads to Nigeria this morning ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Super Eagles in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations second round, return leg in Calabar.
