Editor,This is with reference to the article that appeared in your newspaper, yesterday, about a big delegation of the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) to Uganda to join the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for the Heroes Day celebrations, which took place in the western district of Mbarara. That the Rwandan delegation included two major generals – Jerome Ngendahimana and Alex Kagame – as well as 35 officers and men, and a 24-member APR football team, demonstrates the importance the Rwandan military attaches to its relationship with the UPDF, and indeed the broader excellent relations between Rwanda and Uganda. The New Times did not tell us who won the game between APR and their counterparts Simba, but I understand the hosts won 3-1. I also understand that the majority of APR top players are members of the national team, and could, therefore, not make the trip since they were in the Amavubi camp for the crunch World Cup tie against Benin, which took place the day later – on Sunday.Nonetheless, the game was more in the spirit of solidarity and brotherliness, and not competition per se. Such friendly interactions between RDF and UPDF – two of the most outstanding militaries in this region – are healthy and serve as reassurance to the peoples of these two sister countries that the bilateral ties are only getting better.Long live RDF, long live UPDF.John KazoraKabale
