Rwanda can afford to count her eggs after landing a fairly soft group at the 2007 ladies’ African Cup of Nations volleyball championship that started yesterday at Kasarani, Nairobi.
Rwanda who started her campaign last evening against Senegal is also seeded alongside Egypt, Tunisia and South Africa in Group B.
Group A which is arguably the toughest has the event’s reigning champions and hosts Kenya, the 2007 All Africa Games champions Algeria and silver medallists Cameroon, Botswana and Uganda.
Kenya, who were completely outplayed and outsmarted in the All Africa Games, launched their title defence yesterday against Botswana in what was likely to be a one-sided encounter while Cameroon and Algeria were also expected to face-off.
The draws which were conducted Tuesday evening by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) technical director Madam Hawaida excluded Nigeria and Seychelles who had not arrived by Tuesday evening.
Apart from Egypt who are expected to reign supreme in Pool B, South Africa, Rwanda, Tunisia and Senegal have all been tipped to the group’s second spot.
The continental event runs from September 3-12 and will be used to pick Africa’s representative at the World Cup which will be staged in Japan in November.
