RWANDA has suffered a severe slump as it dropped 14 places to 119 in this month’s Fifa/Coca Cola World rankings released yesterday in Switzerland.The slump comes barely a few days after the national team, Amavubi, suffered a 0-4 loss to Algeria in the opening match of the 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifier played last Saturday in Blida.Rwanda also lost 0-1 to Libya and 1-5 to Tunisia before drawing with Chad (1-1) in the three international matches played in Tunisia en route to Algeria for the World Cup clash.Rwanda, placed 35th in Africa has dropped from second to fourth position in Cecafa rankings, coming behind Uganda on 94th; Sudan on 101st and Kenya on 111th.As Rwanda dropped 14 places, Group H rivals Benin who will meet Amavubi this Sunday in Kigali moved up to 72nd position in the world, and 17th in Africa.Other Group H rivals Algeria moved six places to 32nd in the world and 3rd in Africa following their 4-0 victory over Rwanda, while Mali dropped four places to 43rd and 5th in Africa after their 0-1 loss to Benin.Côte d’Ivoire is the best placed African country in the top ten world ranking with 943 points. The Elephants are ranked 16th in the world, nine places ahead of Ghana who are second in Africa.World and European champions Spain extended their lead atop of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking as Uruguay unseated Germany to go second and reach their highest-ever position on the global ladder.
