An exuberant celebration of pioneering women singers and songwriters, human rights, justice and equality for all, ‘Sing the Truth!’ is a freewheeling and entertaining. ‘Sing the Truth!’, which has played worldwide to sell-out crowds, performs in the free, opening-night concert, June 16 at 7 p.m. for the International Festival of Arts and Ideas (IFAI) on the New Haven Green. The musical review and tribute is part of the IFAI’s 15-day cornucopia of events, including music, dance and theater, both ticketed and admission-free at various sites in the Elm City. With vocal firepower and warm expressiveness, the three vocalists highlight social and political elements in the music of such bold, consciousness-raising singers and songwriters as Miriam Makeba, Odetta and Abbey Lincoln.
