The Mayor of Gicumbi District, Bonane Nyangezi, has resigned from his position just a year after winning his second five-year term. The New Times understands that Nyangezi threw in the towel on June 4.

It was not immediately clear whether the decision was purely his personal initiative or he was forced out, but sources claim he cited "personal reasons”.

His resignation follows that of Francois Niyotwagira as the mayor of Ngoma District last month.
