A group of 23 girls who were rewarded with a computer training course for performing exceptionally in last year Senior Six exams graduated yesterday.The girls are part of many who are rewarded annually by Imbuto Foundation under a campaign aimed at promoting education of the girl child. Imbuto Foundation is an initiative under the Office of the First Lady Jeannette Kagame.The girls, who completed their high school last year and are waiting placement into various institutions of higher learning, received a three-week computer training at Tumba College of Technology (TCT).Speaking at the event, Nina Shalita, the Deputy Director General of Imbuto Foundation said: "This training is truly essential to you, given the ICT-driven world that we live in; it is important to keep up with the times and move at the speed of development.”"As leaders of tomorrow, you should remember to always be one step ahead of the times,” she said.One of the graduates, Ornella Umutoni Gashumba said: "It is a matter of choice, we have already chosen to work for our future, we shall utilise the power within us to remain resolute onto success and the success of our nation”.Pascal Gatabazi, the Principal of the College, reminded the girls that they should climb higher and be role models to others.According to Imbuto Foundation the relevance of the initiative is to empower Rwandan young women in their early age, initiate and motivate them with skills so as to ensure consistency and efficiency in their participation in the country’s development.
