Editor,Through your newspaper I was able to learn that the UN, last week, celebrated the lives of peacekeepers who died in various parts of the country while in the line of duty. Four Rwandan peacekeepers are among those who lost their lives while serving with UN missions in the course of last yearBy rewarding these heroes and heroines with posthumous medals during a ceremony held at the UN headquarters in New York, the UN rightly honoured their great contribution to peace building. This is something that individual countries and continents should emulate – cerebrating the lives of their very own which were lost for a worthy cause.Nonetheless, the UN needs to rid its peacekeeping operations of rogue elements – peacekeepers that deviate from their mission and instead cause insecurity to the local communities.
