POPULAR Kenyan-based Burundian artiste Kidumu is scheduled to perform at Club Cadillac in Kigali on 16 June. The show is scheduled to start at 8p.m. The entry fee is Rwf5,000.Earlier in the day, Kidumu is scheduled to grace the internationally renowned Kwita Izina - (Gorilla Naming) ceremony in Musanze. The annual event is organised by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB).The 37-year-old crooner mainly sings using his mother tongue, Kirundi, and Kiswahili ,and is currently working on a new album, which he hopes would continue to uphold his standing internationally.Kidumu, whose real name is Jean Pierre Nimbona, began his musical career as a drummer in Burundi, working with several different bands including Imvumero Band (1986-1992) and Imboneza Band (1992-1993). In 1994, he launched his own band called Electric Power, which lasted for only a year due to the war in Burundi. He fled to Kenya where he joined the Hot Rod Band which he worked with until 2003. He formed his own band, the Boda Boda Band in 2004, which he still runs to date.Kidumu remains immensely popular in his home country and has often performed there since the release of his first album, ‘‘Yaramenje’’, in 2001.
