Rwandair yesterday came to the aid of the national ladies’ golf team preparing to take part in the 20th edition of the Golf All Africa Challenge Trophy at Phakalane Golf Club (PGC) in Gaborone from June 5-7, 2012.The national carrier will provide return air tickets to the three-player team made up of Claire Kayitesi, Jenny Kalisa Linda and Alphosine Murikatete.Twenty countries are expected to take part and they include hosts Botswana, Egypt, Gabon, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Reunion, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Angola.Despite being their first time to compete in such an event, team captain Claire Kayitesi is optimistic about Rwanda’s chances."We have been training really hard for this tournament and we are well aware of task ahead us. We will give 100%,” said a confident Kayitesi, who is one of the elite women golfers in the country.South Africa has won the Team Event in all previous ten tournaments, with the exception of Egypt, which emerged champions in 2006. The individual trophy has been won by Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya and Ivory Coast.The AACT will be awarded to the team returning the lowest gross score for the three rounds. The individual AACT champion will be the player who returns the lowest total score over the three days of play. The Trustee Junior Trophy will be awarded to a national team member, who is under 19 years of age on the first day of the tournament. Scoring will run concurrently with the All Africa Champion Team Trophy over all three rounds. The winner will be the player with the lowest total gross score.
