A total of 20 prisons staff from various correctional centres countrywide are currently under police custody as investigations into embezzlement allegations mount.Police spokesperson Theos Badege confirmed to The New Times yesterday that 2 other private entrepreneurs have also been arrested in connection with the same charges.The arrested prison officials at Mpanga prison Gasabo (Kimironko), Nyamagabe and Rubavu districts.In a separate interview, Major General Paul Rwarakabije, the Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS) said the corruption scandals were discovered after contradictions in procurement reports."Our own findings were that some of these officials could sign bills claiming to have received certain things when actually they did not,” Rwarakabije said.The arrests follow the apprehension of the Rubavu District Executive Secretary, who was earlier nabbed for allegedly conniving with some of the officials in the alleged mismanagement.He disclosed that Kalisa was arrested for allegedly conspiring to embezzle Rwf 7 million at Gisenyi prison.
