Editor,Please allow me to begin my response to Felly Kimenyi’s opinion in The New Times of May 30 (Africa needs its own peacekeepers, not ‘mercenaries’) by stating that I agree with his thoughts. I believe it’s an opinion shared by most people across Rwanda as well as the unfortunate Congolese nationals who are suffering at the hands of their supposed helpers (MONUSCO).It is true that the Congolese have hardly had a sense of peace since 2000 and that there is definitely someone to blame for their woes. And that’s MONUSCO and the international community who have failed to help DRC eliminate hordes of militia groups who have turned eastern DRC into a den for all sorts of crimes.MONUSCO is simply trying to mask its own failure and deflecting public attention from its endless scandals over the last 12 years.Samex
