Editor, I read with keen interest the article by Joseph Rwagatare, under the title, Rwanda’s independence golden jubilee – what’s that?’, which ran in The New Times of May 29.

Some observers have also noted an induced replica of the Belgian tribal/ethnic/linguistic conflict in the Rwandan problem. The Walloon were the majority in the beginning and had favoured the Tutsi, while the Flemish continued their ideological fights with the Walloon to gain supremacy over one another on Rwandan soil and favoured the Hutus. Rwandans of that time were naive to see it. It subsequently ended the way colonialists wished it.We thank God that Rwandans now have a government that has gone over and above this mediocrity. It is, therefore, time to celebrate the achievements of a new Rwanda as well as the sun our country has finally seen after a very long tunnel. The battle should be for an independent Rwanda, free from foreign aid.Long live Rwanda, long live Rwandans.Seth
