The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) was the biggest beneficiary at FIFA Congress in Budapest Hungary Friday.FIFA made several amendments to its statutes and when they were endorsed by over 209 Nations, CECAFA worked out as the biggest beneficiary.The newest nation in the world, South Sudan could not wait for the normal two years before receiving FIFA status. They were admitted immediately.Africa’s only Football Association lady president Lydia Nsekera of Burundi was nominated to the FIFA Executive committee becoming the first women ever to sit on the top organ of the world’s football governing body.Nsekera, who is also the President of Burundi FA also sits on the International Olympic Committee Women committee as well as FIFA women and Ethics Committee. She also serves on CAF women standing committee.Nsekera, 45 formally took her position at the Congress as Fifa’s first ever women member of the Executive Committee.Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, who is in Budapest for the Congress congratulated both South Sudan and Nsekera for the FIFA recognition."It’s a great day for Cecafa. First to get a new member and secondly to provide the World with its first woman Executive committee member to FIFA,” he said in a statement.South Sudan became the 12th member of Cecafa and will immediately start participating in Cecafa, Caf and FIFA Competitions.
