THE usually quite Gicumbi was ablaze as Primus Guma Guma SuperStar (PGGSS) season two road show was staged in the Northern Province town.Thousands of residents braved the little afternoon drizzle to catch glimpse of the 10 top artistes as they battled it out for the top prize of Rwf24m. Bralirwa organised competition’s emcees Anita Pendo and Tino did not also disappoint, ensuring that the crowd was kept on its feet when the first act, Jay Polly preformed Akanyarirajisho and Umwami uganje a few minutes past 4pm.The Umwami Uganje star was followed by Urban Boyz, equally popular with the crowd. The boys immediately demonstrated why they were the right choice to replace Emmy, who is in the U.S.They worked the crowd, performing three of their renowned tracks, Sipiriyani, "Take it off”, and Umfatiye runini, which they performed with Riderman. But the trio could not leave without performing what has become their signature song, Reka Mpfukame, as they got on their knees and the crowd loved it.Rapper Danny definitely has what it takes to be among the top 10. He has proved to whoever doubted his prowess in the competition and he did it again in Gicumbi. There is no doubt that King James is among the potential contestants for the grand prize, though this time in Gicumbi he did not impress, per say; one of those bad days. The R&B singer started off with his song, Ndakwizera, but the crowd was kind of cold and unresponsive. But he was saved by his new track, Pala pala, which many enjoyed. Dream Boyz hit the stage with their song ‘No one like me’, Iteka ni teka, and, Mumutacye. The sensational duo took to the stage performing their own songs, including, Iteka ni teka, but one would rightly say their performance was average. Bull Dog, who usually sings about issues in the society, is the man to beat. He eased through his, Coup d’ tat, rendition and his famous, ‘Bye Bye Nyakatsi, before he was joined by his Tuff Gang crew to perform, Jalousie, and Customer care. The two ladies battling it out with the boys, Knowles and Young Grace also proved that they are a force to reckon with. Young Grace, young as her stage name suggests also proved that she will not easily be bullied out of the competition. Her confidence to perform before a huge crowd keeps growing by the day.Knowles mesmerized the crowd with Byemere, and Nkoraho. She proved to the rest that she is a crowd charmer by inviting one of her male fans to join her in Nkoraho, (Touch me) performance."I am delighted. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to see all these musicians perform on one stage,” said Epiphanie Umumararungu, 24, a resident of Gicumbi. "Great thanks to Primus for making this happen. We know their songs but we had never seen the faces behind the voices.”The next road show will be held in Nyamagabe district on June 2, 2012.
