Kayonza–Forum for Activists against HIV/AIDS Scourge (FAAS), a local non- governmental organisation, has launched a campaign to strengthen associations of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.The Chief Executive Officer of FAAS, Frank Asiimwe, disclosed this yesterday when addressing National Women Council (CNF) representatives and other cooperatives of people living with HIV/AIDS, in Kayonza District.According to Asiimwe, they aspired to build advocacy, networking, governance, organisational, managerial and financial capacities of the associations and cooperatives."FAAS supports and protects women and girls from sexual and gender-based violence, raise awareness of laws that protect property rights, and through its legal aid clinic, pursue justice for such people”.He said the organisation aims at facilitating people acquire basic needs and full enjoyment of equal protection of the law.CNF representative in Murama Sector, Godbelta Mukeshimana, said the drive to protect people living with the disease was promising."We work to protect people from contracting the virus, but at the same time, ensure that those already infected live a meaningful life. The two approaches can’t work in isolation,” she observed.
