It is frustrating to learn that Genocide suspect Leon Mugesera had, once again, appealed to the High Court after the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court rejected his continued attempts to delay the process.
This is the second time in four months Mugesera is petitioning the High Court – even as his case is yet to commence. Since his deportation from Canada early this year, Mugesera has done everything possible to delay his trial. First, he said he wanted enough time to put together a defence team, including foreign lawyers. At the end of the day, he hired none. Then, he refused to be tried in Kinyarwanda, his native language, preferring French yet he’s fluent in Kinyarwanda. And now, he’s insisting he needs more months to read and internalise his case. Let him have whatever days he wants, but I am sure justice will finally be delivered.Epiphanie Kantarama
