I followed with keen interest the meeting of the East African magistrates which took place in Kigali this week. From the stories I read in The New Times it is clear that African jurists, just like political leaders, are concerned with what they called “selective” justice exercised by the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has hitherto largely targeted African suspects.

From the stories I read in The New Times it is clear that African jurists, just like political leaders, are concerned with what they called "selective” justice exercised by the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has hitherto largely targeted African suspects. It is not unfair to conclude that the court is indeed more of a political tool of the west since it is yet to indict any Europeans or Americans for their continued violence in various parts of the world.Nonetheless, if African nations are to be heard and respected in the community of nations, they will need to work together and to pursue a common cause, with one voice as a continent. Otherwise if individual countries choose different approaches, it will always be a hurdle.Karoli KazimiriKampala
