Melissa’s friends thought she would be the happiest girl in the world when Daniel proposed with a pure diamond ring she always fantasised about. By the time Daniel decided to pop the question, they had mastered the art of dating. From candle-lit dinners, to road-trips and vacations abroad, they spent their time in bliss.Years later, everything changed and marriage for Melisa and Daniel became less spicy and communication was more like a routine schedule performed with stretched tolerance. Many couples today hold the same fears that things turn from bad to worse after settling into marriage.Dorothy Gasasira, a mother of two and a Lawyer by profession, says that this happens for almost every marriage."During the dating period, men try so hard to make a lasting impression hence the countless coffee dates, going out to the movies and vacations is really expected. After marriage, everyone gets busy in their daily routine which at times could be bad for a marriage,” she says.Gasasira says that married couples need to re-ignite the fire even after settling together. Otherwise, if the marriage gets so boring, one party could find an alternative to make the marriage interesting."It’s almost impossible to find a married couple eating out at one of those cosy restaurants or going out for coffee together. Most of the time, it’s younger people who go through these mundane dating tasks,” she added.Sean Mugisha, 27, says that women always think dating is the sole responsibility of men yet women need to play a big role when it comes to keeping marriages interesting. "Women always think it’s the men that are supposed to keep the bond in the marriage strong. Women should also play a part and make the marriage interesting like organising a candle lit dinner at home,” Mugisha said.Well, everyone will have a different experience in their marriage but bottom line is, both man and woman are responsible for reviving the spark in a marriage. Blame games never work; however, open communication is the wiser choice.
