FERWAFA President Célestin Ntagungira and Chief Executive Officer Michel Gasingwa will be among 600 delegates taking part in the 62nd annual FIFA congress that takes place in Budapest, Romania, from May 23-25.The congress will be preceded by a medical conference, the second of its kind and it will look at issues that include: sudden heart attacks, training accidents, FIFA’s 11+ warm-up programme and pre-match medicals, in addition to any other football-related issues raised by participants.The president of Ferwafa’s medical commission Dr Edmond Mukimbiri will represent Rwanda at the medical conference, while Bernard Itangishaka, Ferwafa’s Treasurer, is also expected to travel for the other three workshops which will look like a proposal limiting mandates for its president and officials, and barring election for anyone over the age of 72.FIFA president Sepp Blatter is currently in his fourth term, having been re-elected unopposed last year at the age of 75.Meanwhile, India will seek support at the congress over its bid to host the U-17 World Cup in 2017. The 2013 edition will be held in the United Arab Emirates.Rwanda played in the competition for the first time last year but was ejected in the group stages. Qualifiers for the African U-17 championship will commence in July. The Junior Wasps side proceeded to the second round and will face the winner between Malawi and Botswana on the weekend of October 12-14.If Rwanda succeed against either Malawi or Botswana, they will land a tricky third round tie against the winner between Sudan/Somalia and Algeria to be played in November.The final African tournament will be held in Algeria from April 13 to 27 next year.
