Editor,The story titled "Bashir says Sudan, South Sudan need peace-Mbeki’’ in The New Times, May 21, where Khartoum government promised to observe all security agreements it has signed with the South sends a positive message to the region.May be Sudan and South Sudan need also to learn from Rwanda if they want to progress. They need to trust each other in order to attain sustainable peace.Rwanda was once a failed state, torn by ethnic differences and bad leadership and later descended into a full scale genocide which left it shattered. After the Liberation struggle, the Government of Unity and Reconciliation was able to put the country together and embarked on a development process that has put the country where it is today. Therefore, I am of the view that if Sudan and South Sudan decided to take the Rwandan approach, peace can return and development can take root. It is up to Bashir and Salva Kiir to think of how many lives have been lost and how many years they have wasted in civil war.Joseph MugishaKampala
