Six people were killed and 11 others injured among the 24 passengers onboard due to a car accident in Karongi District on Sunday, May 7.
The spokesperson for the Traffic and Road Safety Department, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rene Irere, told The New Times that the fatal accident took place at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
"On their way from Rubengera to Mubaga sector in Karongi District, a Toyota minibus carrying passengers hit some metal on the road, causing the vehicle to fall from a height of 20 to 25 meters,” he said.

Irere emphasized the importance of responsible driving and advised against speeding.
Out of the 11 people who were injured, four are receiving medical treatment at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK), two at King Faisal Hospital, and five at Rwanda Military Hospital in Kanombe.
