Kigali City Council (KCC) on Friday carried out commemorative activities to remember its former workers who were killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.Council workers were joined by hundreds of city residents in a Walk To Remember which started at St Andre Secondary School and ended at Nyamirambo Regional Stadium.Senator Jeanne D’arc Gakuba and city Mayor Fidel Ndayisaba led the walk.Several people gave testimonies regarding the Genocide and highlighted the importance of this year’s commemoration theme; "Learning from history to build a bright future”.Ndayisaba, noted that the Genocide was possible because of some notorious leaders of the time, among them, Col. Tharcisse Renzaho, former Governor of the city"It is the role of Kigali city administration to make sure that such a tragedy doesn’t happen to our workers again through putting up laws to fight against it,” he said.The Minister of Sports and culture, Protais Mitali, who also participated in the event, gave words of encouragement to the families of the victims.
