LAST year’s national league runners-up APR have pulled out of this year’s Africa women’s club championships that commenced yesterday in Nairobi at the Kasarani and Africa Nazarene University gymnasiums.Speaking exclusively to Times Sport, APR’s vice president in charge of volleyball, Bosco Muhizi, revealed that the army side has decided to withdraw from the continental competition citing financial constraints.Muhizi confirmed the team had a budget of RwF19m (about U$32, 000), which was to cater for meals, accommodation, travel fees and allowances for the Nairobi tournament. The army side last participated at this annual tournament in 2010 in Mauritius where they finished in eighth position."We are so disappointed that we shall not make the trip because we have been preparing for this tournament since January and for sure we wanted to finish among the top four sides,” pointed out Patrick Sibomana, the head coach of APR.According to Muhizi, the APR budget was suffocated by the return leg fixture of the football side that travelled to Tunisia last month to play against Etoile du Sahel in the first round of the CAF Champions League. APR lost 3-2 to the hosts.
