OVER 60 athletes will compete in different categories in the national junior athletics championship slated for this Saturday.According to Johnson Rukundo, the interim Secretary General of the National Athletics Federation, the competition will also help to select the country’s representatives in the world junior athletics championships which will be held in Barcelona next month."We hold the competition every year to scout for young runners and the best two this time round will represent Rwanda in the 3000m and 5000m categories at the world junior championship,” Rukundo said.Athletes will compete in 100m, 200m, 1500m, 5000m, 8000m, and 10.000m, long and short jump. The event will take place at Amahoro stadium.Meanwhile elections to elect a new athletics committee are also slated for Sunday at the body’s offices. It is not clear which candidates will vie for different posts on offer which include-President, 1st and 2nd vice presidents, Secretary General, Treasurer and two advisors.
