GICUMBI – Prime Minister Bernard Makuza has called upon employers to respect workers’ rights by according them their benefits as stipulated by the law. He said this during Labour Day celebrations which took place in Gicumbi District, Northern Province. “Workers on the other hand should develop a good relationship with their employers by being trustworthy and dedicated to their work,” Makuza told the thousands who thronged Gicumbi Stadium.

He said this during Labour Day celebrations which took place in Gicumbi District, Northern Province. "Workers on the other hand should develop a good relationship with their employers by being trustworthy and dedicated to their work,” Makuza told the thousands who thronged Gicumbi Stadium.
He called for the continued fight against the genocide ideology, and for creation of more jobs. The Prime Minister advised civil servants and the self employed to respect work as it was the pillar of development and a vehicle to eradicate poverty.
"I call upon the youth to fight against the genocide ideology and be job creators,” the Premier said.
Makuza encouraged workers to participate in Itorero training programme because it is the only viable way that could bring about total unity and reconciliation among Rwandans.
Other speakers included the vice president of the workers’ union (CESTRAR), Dative Mukaruzima, and Robert Bayigamba, the president of the Private Sector Federation (PSF).
Bayigamba hailed Hotel Urumuli and Pembe Wheat factory of Byumba for creating employment for the local population and promoting tourism respectively.
"We intend to increase the number of cement and cassava flour processing plants in the country by next year,” he revealed.
The public sector head urged business community to create cooperative societies to acquire bargaining power, especially when dealing with banks.
The function was concluded by the award of certificates of merit to Hotel Urumuli as the best local investor, four trophies to Gicumbi District football men and women sports teams, among others.
