KIGALI - Rwandan medical practitioners will soon freely operate in Kenya, a senior Kenyan medical official has said. Daniel Yumbya, the Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB), said yesterday Rwandan medical practitioners will be registered, trained and allowed to practice in Kenya without difficulty. Yumbya was speaking to The New Times after a three-day visit to Rwanda during which he shared experiences with members of Rwanda Medical Council (RMC).

"This special recognition will strictly be for medical practitioners who hold Rwandan citizenship and have been certified by the Medical Council here. We need to share experiences,” Yumbya said.

He said that the three pioneer EAC partner states – Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania – had already submitted lists of universities that subscribe to the required medical examination standards.

Yumbya added that Rwanda’s selected universities will also benefit from all the advantages that accruing from membership such as internship and practicing.

The State Minister in charge of HIV/Aids and other Infectious Diseases Dr Innocent Nyaruhirira said that Rwanda would learn from Kenya’s nursing experience. He said that Rwanda is planning to dispatch a team of nurses to Kenya as part of efforts to build a strong nursing profession in the country.Ends
