PNFL, YesterdayKiyovu 0-3 APRLa Jeunesse 1-1 AmagajuNyanza 1-0 EtincellesEspoir 1-2 PoliceMukura 1-1 AS KigaliPolice FC yesterday took a huge step towards their first Primus National Football league title in 11 years with a crucial victory over Espoir in Rusizi.Amavubi striker Meddie Kagere curled home on stroke of half time and Burundian born international Laudit Mavugo added a second goal from close range on 50th minute to keep title hopes alive for the law and order enforcers .Police, in second position with 47 points, now know that victory over Marines and Mukura in two of their three remaining matches of the season will secure the Primus National Football League title.In Kigali, there was a dominant display by APR, inspired by Faty Papy’s industrious work in midfield, as they thrashed helpless SC Kiyovu 3-0 at Amahoro stadium.Papy displayed a stellar finishing when he met a fine set-piece from St. Preux Lionnel to send goalie Batte Shamiro the wrong way on 44th minute.In the second half, Lionnel doubled the lead when his close range shot was deflected into the net by defender Patrick Umwungeli.APR, who displayed an attacking football with distinct work rate, forced Kiyovu goal keeper into action on a number of occasions.Skipper Olivier Karekezi fizzed a header to score APR’s third goal on 90th minute after meeting an excellent loop from Selemani Ndikumana.The Ugandan-born green baggies keeper was forced to turn away low shots from Selemani Ndikumana, Jean Baptista Mugiraneza and Olivier Karekezi while Faty Papy also went close with a curling free-kick.SC Kiyovu, who missed their clinical striker Julius Bakkabulindi to illness produced their best efforts through Simon Okwi and Djabir Mutarambirwa but they were all put on bay by Jean Luc Ndayishimiye who was pivotal in APR’s stands.APR, who lead the standings with 49 points, two points ahead of rivals Police must beat Nyanza in the last match of the season and pray that Police lose their remaining three matches to be assured of their 13th league title in 17 years.Elsewhere, Mukura blew their chances of winning the title following a 1-all draw against AS Kigali at home. They are now placed third with 43 points.La Jeunesse played a 1-all draw against Amagaju at Stade de Kigali while Nyanza snatched a 1-0 victory over Etincelles to boost their chances of escaping relegation zone with two matches left.Espoir, who are placed bottom of the standings with six points are the only known team that will be relegated to second division.
